Middle-class retirees and seniors deserve relief from double taxation that drains savings and dignity

PARK RIDGE, ILL – September 15, 2025 – U.S. Senate candidate Casey Chlebek (R-IL) today announced if elected, he will propose a bold plan to abolish the federal tax on Social Security benefits and protect the dignity of America’s seniors, survivors, and disabled citizens.
“Americans pay into Social Security with every paycheck,” said Chlebek. “Taxing those benefits a second time is double taxation—and it’s wrong. Seniors worked a lifetime for these benefits. They should not be punished by Washington just for collecting what they already earned.”
The Social Security tax, first created in 1983 and expanded in 1993 with the support of then-Senator Joe Biden, now costs retirees an estimated $85 billion annually—money that could otherwise pay for groceries, prescriptions, or keeping the lights on.
President Trump made progress through the One Big Beautiful Bill, which expanded deductions for seniors 65 and older, reducing the number of Americans who pay the tax. But those provisions expire in 2029, leaving millions still exposed.
Chlebek’s MAGNA Social Security Tax Freedom Act would:
Fully repeal the federal tax on retirement, survivor, and disability benefits beginning in 2027.
Protect trust funds by replacing every dollar currently sent to Social Security (OASDI) and Medicare (HI) with automatic general fund transfers.
Provide targeted relief for lower- and middle-income retirees if full repeal is delayed, phasing out the tax within five years.
Pay for repeal responsibly by cutting government waste, reforming Medicare payments, ending pharmacy middleman schemes, and closing narrow corporate loopholes.
“Social Security is not just a check—it’s a promise,” Chlebek said. “My plan keeps that promise. It protects the program for today’s retirees and tomorrow’s workers while ending the unfair double taxation once and for all.”
Chlebek emphasized that abolishing Social Security taxes is the second pillar of his MAGNA Agenda—Make America the Greatest Nation Again, which lays out seven bold reforms to restore dignity, ownership, and opportunity for the American people. Last month, Chlebek released his Property Tax Freedom Plan, aimed at phasing out property taxes while safeguarding school funding and essential services.
“Democrats talk about protecting Social Security while quietly taxing the benefits you already paid for,” said Chlebek. “I’m offering a real, constitutional, fully-funded solution that ends the tax, protects the trust funds, and secures the future of Social Security for our children and grandchildren.”
Casey Chlebek, a business leader, public policy advocate, and proud Polish-American, has officially declared intention to be the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Illinois. With a vision to put power back into the hands of hardworking families, Chlebek is launching a sweeping reform domestic platform known as the MAGNA Agenda—Make America the Greatest Nation Again. The Social Security Tax Freedom Act is the second of seven pillars in his MAGNA Agenda to reduce taxes, reward work, and restore opportunity.
